Remaking child drawings

Once I was sorting out the drawings of my childhood and found a set of characters. The idea of characters was quite well, but as a child I had a lack of skills (in contrast with enthusiasm).

Here you can see these drawings:

The most popular cartoon of my childhood was Spider-Man, and I tried not to miss a single episode. This series had amazingly detailed and interesting characters. I also wanted to create my own superhero series. And therefore this theme was frequent in my drawings. I recall how I was developing the series, how I was dividing the characters into the good and the evil ones.

And apparently, it still does, as I decided to remake my illustrations! And in this post, I’ll show you the sketches I made approximately when I was 9 and the result of my recent work. I hope you’ll appreciate this project, which was fun for me! Let's start in order!

The first guy I drew was the Mutant Killer II.

This was the guy from the bad crowd, but I chose him to start. ‘Cause the thorns are sticking out of his suit so well. They could be depicted nicely. I tried to express the child's concept one and the same, and therefore in fact I changed only the pose to a more dynamic one. Also, I decided on the style and color scheme right away. The classic comic style was a great choice in my opinion.

The Cat Man.

  • This is the Cat Man, so I didn't make him pumped. But I made him withy and thin.

  • Shoulder and arm shields are one of the distinctive parts of the outfit. I made the spikes larger thereby adding the contrast on the form of the details.⠀

  • I emphasized the contrast of the shoulder and arm shields by using complementary purple and yellow. Thus, the character became more interesting.

  • I made the spikes on the outfit sparse and small so as not to interfere with perception.

And here is the result:

A deft and wiry Cat man will sneak up to you so that you won't even notice.

The Man of the Dark

Although this guy looks scary, actually he is on the “nice” side of the force. He is a brave rival and a great friend. Here, of course, my fascination with Spider-Man is noticeable.😄

The Vampire

Nice guys should beware of dark corners because there could be an insidious vampire. It's funny that as a child I drew some strange thorns-claws on his feet. Apparently I was guided by the fact that he couldn't hit with these thorns, but did not think at all about how he would walk. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Dog Man

When I was looking at my child sketch, I was thinking of the way I should depict this guy. I see him as confident, maybe too confident. That’s why I decided to make him in a relaxed pose. But even with this pose, he will easily switch to the attack, throwing the weapon off his shoulder. I quickly tried the pose at the mirror and made a 3d blank model to help myself. It provided the basis.

Then something needed to be done with the weapon. The child sketch contains a lot of it. In my childhood, I didn’t take into account the proportions, that’s why all nunchucks looked toylike. And if I began to redraw the weapon in the same amount, it just wouldn’t fit.

So, I took away a part of the weapon to allow the hero to move in some way with all this arsenal. But I kept the positioning to leave the resemblance. At the end I added shadows and colors. It seemed to be a nice idea to make all stripes of the belting red. It gives a nice color contrast.

The Mouse Man

This guy, like the Dog, is all covered with weapons. I thought that one guy armed to the teeth would be enough for me in the series. Moreover, I wanted to portray the Mouse Man in a flexible, oriental fighting pose. So I didn't draw most of the weapons, but focused on the pose.

Besides, it seems that the influence of the Biker Mice from Mars cartoon is obvious. My character even wears the same mask as Vinnie’s.

I liked this guy as well as the Dog Man, and in my opinion, he was the leader of the good team.

The Rhino Man

One can immediately think of Rhino from Spider-Man. My guy is also vigorous and strong. Any barrier will be broken if this guy picks up the speed properly.

The Eagle Man

8.jpg

In this series, I’d like to add dynamics, movement to my characters even if this is a static position. The Eagle Man has spread his wings and is fit for action. Being attentive and nimble, he won’t let the enemy go away.

So, here came out such a series of drawings. It's a good basis for the development of the whole superhero universe.

I still have some guys that have not been drawn yet, to whom I can return in the future. For example, look how wonderful the Pineapple man is.
