This year I have been developing concepts and a prototype for an indie game called Rift in the Empire. Initially, I had a working lore of the world, which was based on sketches that represented elements of this world.
Based on them, I began to further develop the game's world and created a character.
Then I made the game screen as if it was a classic platformer. We were not going to make a classic platformer, but I needed a concept to start from.
Now that I had the concept, I could work on some of the surroundings based on the existing sketches. And I drew trees, houses and some elements of the environment:
And then I slightly expanded the initial screen with the level concept:
And then I moved on to color variations. I made two options in warm and cold palettes:
We liked the warm palette more and I worked out this option in more detail:
Thus, we found a visual solution to the game, and we could move on. We didn't plan to make a classic platformer. The next task was to make 4 biomes in which our character would get resources, loot, where the fighting would take place.
It was a forest:
Catacombs:
Mountains:
And the rift:
For each of the biomes I made surface textures:
And a set of basic elements:
Afterwards, I focused on the interface concepts and made some inventory sketches. This part refers to equipment and weapons:
And this part is the inventory itself.
Among other works that I would also like to show is an approximate plan of one of the levels:
Start screen:
I made a more detailed sketch of the main character to understand his proportion, possible movements, equipment, and more:
I made quite rough animations of his movement:
Some of the lore sketches of this game I worked out in detail in color when I was undergoing an advanced training in the render course. These projects are shown separately in my portfolio.
Thank you very much for your attention!
If you are making a game and you need a person who will take over the graphic part - feel free to contact me.
